Food This Week 11


I've been experimenting with our new (to us) FoodSaver! Although the machine is loud, it does what it's supposed to. It took a while to get vacuum sealer bags delivered (I had a bad experience with the first supplier and had to dispute the transaction in PayPal before placing an order with FoodVacBags.com), but so far things seem to be doing all right. I packaged leftover hot dogs (from the beach bonfire that was cancelled by a Spare the Air day) into pairs for easy defrosting, and hope that the small stacks of tortillas will work the same way. I did have a slight... incident... when it was very late and my brain glitched: I sealed up freshly-baked unfrosted cupcakes without freezing them solid first. Oops. They're kind of... squashed now. Very squashed. But good for emergencies!

This week's box included 2 potatoes, 3 pears, 3 apples, an orange, an avocado, a bunch of spinach, and a bunch of kale (which we WILL cook this week before it goes bad).

Menu
Friday: Mexican leftovers; hamburger patties, spinach, pears / TAKE OUT GAME HEN / PREP SLOW COOKER LAMB
Groceries:
  • beef roast
  • onions
  • apples
Saturday: easy snacky (fruit, crackers, etc.); lamb, noodles, peas / VISIT A FRIEND
Sunday: leftovers; game hen, carrots, kale, rice / MAKE APPLESAUCE?
Monday: rice & bean burritos, fruit; mac & cheese, broccoli, applesauce / TAKE OUT SHREDDED CHICKEN BREAST
Tuesday: chicken wraps w/ avocado, tomatoes; leftover rice & beans, veggies, maybe shredded chicken / TAKE OUT SALMON
Wednesday: [WORK PROVIDES LUNCH] / leftovers; salmon, plain pasta / FAMILY MEETING
Thursday: leftover work lunch or oatmeal & fruit; hot dogs, mac & cheese, peas & carrots
